I have the second as a Red Carpet but it seems it's more of a Northern moth and the first a Phtheochroa rugosana (FW 9mm). I managed a Bordered Straw also this morning.
Hi Steve, yes indeed, Phtheochroa rugosana and, as Darren says, a nice Flame Carpet. Unfortunately we don't get Red Carpet around here.
Looking at the micro image, just a suggestion: before uploading to the blog why not spend a minute in Photoshop (other photo processing programmes are available!) and crop out some of the unnecessary background then - in that particular case - perhaps lighten the subject a little bit so that the markings are clear. No need to overdo it, but it might well help us to answer future ID requests if we have a brighter image to work from.
Thanks both,my camera skills are very much lower than my 'mothing'. I have a bridge camera which points and shoots. I will fall on the goodness of my son to sharpen up my skills. Hopefully!.
