After 14 years of never getting a sniff in my garden of this well distributed moth, I was very pleased to find a nice fresh Red Underwing on the wall of the house this morning.
And that's exactly where I get most of my records, by checking the house walls first thing in the morning. I think my best effort was 3 one morning. Your record is quite early.
I had a record sent to me this year from 25 July. Out of 571 adult records in the Bucks database there are 8 from July. The earliest two are 17th & 19th.

ReplyDeleteI've only ever seen them on house walls and one telegraph pole, just never mine before. It does look very fresh so presumably just emerged.
