More questions

Just trying to get caught up with the last few catches.
This one was dead in the bottom of the trap. About 15mm wing-tip to wing-tip.

Number 2 6mm in length.

Number 3 5mm in length. Very silver and striped.

Number 4 4mm in length (2 images)

Number 5 3mm in length. Sorry about the image. At the limit for the camera and it wouldn't keep still.

Finally another Thorn, Maybe just a worn Dusky? but it looked almost white when flying around the trap early this morning,

As always any help most welcome. No trapping tonight with the wind and hopefully some much needed  rain.

  1. Hi Andy, I'd suggest the following:

    1. Elophila nymphaeata
    2. Possibly Clavigesta purdeyi
    3. Probably an Argyresthia
    4. A Phyllonorycter (too many possibilities)
    5. Possibly also a Phyllonorycter
    6. A very worn September Thorn

  2. I think the top one looks more like a very worn Anania coronata

  3. Many thanks for the comments. Time to get out the microscope and books to see if I can get any further.

  4. On further examination of the specimens/photos I think Adam is right about the first. I should have got Clavigesta purdeyi as you identified one for me recently! I think the 4th is probably P. mesaniella. The September Thorn is a new species for the garden here. Having caught 200 Muslin Footmen over the last 3 years I finally caught a Round-winged Muslin on Friday night!
