Diamond-back influx

Was anyone else invaded by P. xylostella last night? I counted 160 out of a large catch of 568 of 82 species in my single Robinson MV in the garden. Also another Udea fulvalis and 3 Tree-lichen Beauty.

  1. Not quite on the same level, but I had at least a dozen in East Oxford, a record count for me. Also a Silver Y (have been thin on the ground for me this year - I think only 3rd), my first Rush Veneer of the year and my first ever White-point which I know is resident in some places now, but arriving with what was (for me!) a significant influx of migrants, had me wondering about its origins. Also a record number of Turnip for me last night (10)

  2. I had 19 Silver Y. White-point is now regular in Oxon and considered resident.

  3. 14 P.xylostella here at Westcott last night (an increase from the regular one or two of the past week or two) but no other sign of migration, although I did have about 300 examples of a small reddish beetle (presumably Bradycellus verbascii). In fact not much sign of anything of interest moth-wise - 110+ species but I haven't yet found anything new for the year. I can top your Tree-lichen Beauty count, though, with 18 here!

I'm waiting for a Bedstraw Hawk-moth to turn up, of which there seems to have been a significant fall in the north of the country...

  4. 2 Diamond-back here on Bringsty and one Nomophila noctuella last night. If anyone gets another fulvalis, it's missing from my comparison image on the dissection website and I'd like to add it!
