Ditto in Wolvercote!

Like Adam, but a couple of miles to the north, we had quite a good night on the 30th with fifteen species (thirteen of them positively identified), again including a smattering of rather early individuals - most notably a Clouded Border, a full 18 days before its first appearance last year. We also had our year's first Celypha lacunana (or at least, we're pretty sure that's what it is), a species we're inexplicably fond of. Pebble Prominent was a nice record, too, and there were a couple we weren't sure of: one micro which I'm almost certain is an Agonopteris yeatiana, which would be a garden first, and a pug which I suspect is another Oak-tree. Confirmation, or other suggestions, would be most welcome.

Like others, we've had good numbers of Brimstones (not all outside the trap, but one night this week I did count ten of them loitering around). Steve and Xander Goddard.

Pebble Prominent, 29.4.14

Presumed Agonopterix yeatiana, 30.4.14

Presumed Oak-tree Pug, 30.4.14

  1. Hi Steve & Xander, I agree with Oak-tree Pug but your micro is the very common Agonopterix arenella.

  2. Whoops -- fair enough, it does look right for arenella. Got a bit carried away there!
