Homefield Wood, Bucks

Three hours in Homefield Wood near Marlow last night produced a reasonable 26 species although the majority have already been mentioned on the blog:  Eriocrania subpurpurella, Ypsolopha ustella, Diurnea fagella, Acleris ferrugana/notana, Acleris cristana, Acleris literana, Frosted Green, March Moth, Shoulder Stripe, Water Carpet, Brindled Pug, Oak-tree Pug, Early Tooth-striped, Early Thorn, Engrailed, Lunar Marbled Brown, Red Chestnut, Pine Beauty, Small Quaker, Common Quaker, Clouded Drab, Twin-spotted Quaker, Hebrew Character, Satellite, Chestnut & Nut-tree Tussock.  The noteworthy things were Water Carpet (16 in all, of which 14 came to one trap) and the lack of Quakers (only 6 Small and 32 Common between three MV lights in decent mixed woodland - they really are having a poor year).  Back home at Westcott it was another dismal return in the garden actinic trap with 27 moths of 7 species, the saving grace being an Early Tooth-striped which was only my second ever garden record.  I had yet another Pale Pinion, this time quite a dark specimen which got my hopes up for a second or two...
