June ends with a decent night

Thanks to thundery conditions (but no rain to speak of!) and a minimum of 18C, the garden here at Westcott, Bucks was graced by just over 670 moths of 130 species last night in the first decent result of the summer.  New for the year were Batia unitella, Recurvaria leucatella, Pseudosciaphila branderiana, Hedya salicella, Apotomis turbidana, Ancylis achatana, Epiblema uddmanniana, Catoptria falsella, Udea prunalis, Endotricha flammealis, Orthopygia glaucinalis, Myelois circumvoluta, Buff Arches, Blotched Emerald, July Highflyer, Tawny-barred Angle, Swallow-tailed Moth, Round-winged Muslin, White-point, Dingy Shears, Marbled Beauty and Green Silver-lines.  Both Pseudosciaphila branderiana and Green Silver-lines were new additions to the garden list, while I get White-point sufficiently regularly now for this to be a home-grown species rather than a migrant.  The previous night (29th) had produced Archips xylosteana, Ditula angustiorana, Peach Blossom, Small Emerald and Barred Yellow from an overall much poorer result.  During the daytime on the 30th a fully-grown Mullein caterpillar was found on one of our buddleias although I haven't seen the moth itself here since 2011.
