Hello Steve, yes that is Small Ranunculus and, as you say, it seems to be increasing in numbers. Anecdotally it is also less likely to enter a light trap than be found close by. Certainly the one which visited my garden two years ago (and it is still the only one) was found on a wooden fence three or four metres away from the light.
