White-point & first Vestal

Got a better looking presumed White-Point. Also my first Vestal for several years.

I always wondered how such a fluttery thing managed to migrate more than a few hundred yards especially after it spent 5 mins or so circling and crashing into the damp grass as I tried to pot it. Then it went fluttering up vertically until it disappeared from sight.

  1. Don't forget that at this time of year Vestals could be home bred rather than actual migrants. The parents would have been the actual migrants.

    1. Maybe so if there'd been some Vestal migration in spring, Martin, but, if I remember correctly, this year they didn't really start being seen in numbers around the coast until late-July. I suspect virtually all of the current sightings will be primary immigrants.
