100 macros by the end of May??

A Privet Hawk-moth last night was number 98 on my list of macros in the garden this year.
The first of these looks as if it should be obvious but I am stuck. I expect the pug is one I have recorded already this year but the markings on the hind-wing made me wonder if it is something different.

  1. Hello Andy, I'll suggest Ingrailed Clay for your noctuid because we've reached that time of year when the answer to most ID queries is "Ingrailed Clay"! Does anyone else wish to offer an alternative opinion? The Pug looks to me to be Common, I'm afraid.

  2. Thank you. I'm sure you are right about the Ingrailed Clay having caught 2 more last night with the more usual colouration I can see the similarities. So number 100 had to wait to 1st June with a Buff-tip. Having run my trap near Huntington over the bank holiday weekend I realised that Sibford is that bit later for many species.
