Pseudargyrotoza conwagana

From last night in among hundreds of wasps was this Pseudargyrotoza conwagana which seemed a bit out of season.

Like others I also had a Swallow-tailed moth and also my second Scarce Bordered Straw of the year.
What is a good time of night to look at ivy blossom? I seem to be finding hundreds of woodlice along with millipedes and earwigs but no moths!

  1. Talk about out of season, last night I had a beautiful Buff-tip!.

  2. Any time after dusk Andy. Surprised you're not finding anything though. Also surprised that you're getting so mnay wasps as the common vespids have been generally very scarce this year. Maybe the trap is too close to the ivy, or you're just unlucky.

  3. Thank you. I'll persevere with the ivy. I am seeing very few wasps during the day time but getting literally hundreds in the MV trap. I assume that there is a nest nearby and they seem most active just before it gets light.
