I'm wondering if both or either of the first two Grass Moths are Agriphila selasella?

Then two pictures of the same moth - I think it is Coleophora trifolii?

  1. Hi Mark, the first is Agriphila selasella (whitish bar usually underlined with a black line, not pinched in the middle, and with just a couple of "fingers" at the end), while the second is Agriphila tristella (creamy bar, pinched in the middle and with five fingers at the end, although the fingers are not really clear in your image).

I wouldn't be happy determining the Coleophorid from those pictures - trifolii is normally larger than your moth appears to be.

  2. thanks Dave. Looks like the Coleophorid will be heading in the direction of Peter.
