Museum Lifer!

Whilst setting up a trap to run overnight at the museum, this flew by. Rob Payne had a convenient lure to hand so we managed to attract it back, although it didn't land.

Only ever seen by myself as a caterpillar or a captive-bred adult before, so a wild adult lifer for me!

  1. Out of interest, what sort of time was that, Dave? I've had one or two virgin female Emperors emerge from 2017 caterpillars over the past few days and had a male to one of them in the garden at just before 7pm last night, which I thought was a bit on the late side.

  2. It was around 5:30pm. Rob spotted the moth flying past so he got out the lure which brought it back (although it never landed). I had tried that female you gave me a couple of years back at COAM with no luck, so I am just happy that the species is present!
