Argyresthia semitestacella?

Not a great photo, this one is at the edge of my camera's capabilities and my eyesight. Not sure even out of the pot I can get a much better photo but I'm hoping it's sufficiently distinctive to ID...it's been suggested that this is Argyresthia semitestacella.

  1. Hi Mark,

Even though those aren't the best of images I'd say that's almost certainly albistria. A.semitestacella is quite a bit larger than your specimen and only really likely to be found in/near beech woods.

  2. Without an accurate indication of size this is inconclusive. The white appears to be interrupted at about 3/5 and it appears to have quite a bit of white extending to the tornus but albistria can look like this if worn. However, semitestacella is not a rare moth so is quite possible. Size ranges of the two given in the micros guide are 4.5-5.5 and 6-7mm respectively and 0.5 mm is not an easy distance to measure on a live moth!
