Leafmines for a change - Longwick Bucks

Whilst harvesting apples and pears over the weekend for juicing I noticed the mines pictured her on one apple leaf. Am I right in assuming that they are  a single Lyonetia clerkella mine (running out from the midrib)  plus what appear to be four circular blotch mines which I'm guessing are Leucoptera Malifoliella?

  1. Hi Andrew,

I think you must be correct with Lyonetia clerkella. Although the mine seems rather short the broken frass pattern seems to fit. L.clerkella infests my apple tree so I'm sure you'll find a more obvious candidate mine! I agree that the others are Leucoptera malifoliella. The mine at bottom left clearly shows the spiral of frass.
