Leaf Mine

A recent comment on lack of leaf mine interest made me bring this Holm Oak leaf back for a bit of practice. Well we all have to start somewhere!

I have come up with Stigmella suberivora. Anywhere near?

  1. Hello Steve,

You've got a couple of active mines there of Ectoedemia heringella, plus at least one more vacated mine of the same species. E.heringella seems to be around in huge numbers on Holm Oaks in our area at the moment. The larger rectangular brown area might once upon a time have been a mine of Phyllonorycter messaniella but it isn't possible to say one way or the other from that photo. I assume you have a grid reference for the tree so certainly please record the heringella!

  2. Many thanks Dave. Something else to look out for whilst out and about. All I have to do now is learn to recognise more trees, plants etc!.
