Micro ID

A disappointing night in Aylesbury, only 7 of 5 species. I'm stuck on this one. It looks a bit like Phtheochroa rugosana, but doesn't have the white palps, if that's what they're called. Can you help ID please.
Many thanks,
Jo

  1. Hello Jo,
That is Phtheochroa rugosana, a smart little moth. Your example is rather early (I've not seen it before the last week of April and it is usually a moth of May and June) and this one has lost its hairy palps which perhaps make it look a bit odd.

    1. Thanks Dave. I struggled to identify macro moths last year so tended to ignore the micros. I'll try a bit harder from now on! I couldn't believe the colour on this one when I looked through my macro lens,a smart little moth indeed.
