Daytime moths

I seem to be doing OK for moths in Stitchwort of late. Today, I came across a Small Yellow Underwing and didn't even notice the other inhabitant of the flower... which I assume is Glyphipterix simpliciella.

Also, lots of caterpillars around. Failed to get decent photos of most of them, but can anyone help out with this, on Cherry?

  1. Ha! I took a picture of a Small Yellow Underwing on some cuckoo-flower during today's local dog-walk and as usual it kept its wings closed and its head buried in the flower - getting a decent image of this species isn't easy! Yes to Glyphipterix simpliciella and I think the caterpillar is Mottled Umber.

  2. The SYU was constantly moving, and I noticed it closed its wings as soon as it landed. I did get one pic with more yellow showing, but not on the same flower as the micro! Yes, I now see Mottled Umber. I had loads in Hodgemoor on Beech but I didn't connect in a different location and food tree!
