Further Day Flying Moths

In the garden here at Westcott, Bucks I had my first piece of luck with the clearwing pheromone lures at lunchtime today after several days of trying.  This male Red-tipped Clearwing came to the FOR lure at 1.30pm.

I took a brief trip up to Weston Underwood in the far north of Bucks this afternoon to check on our only known site for the nationally scarce liquorice feeder Grapholita pallifrontana.  The food-plant wasn't quite as advanced as it has been when I've looked for it there in previous years but it was present in abundance and I eventually found four active moths sitting around on the leaves.  They were very flighty, though, and as soon as I got the camera out they were off.  I wasn't feeling inclined to net one and bring it home just for a photo session so you'll have to make do with a "file photo"!
