Rhyacionia buoliana

 One of the problems with collecting shoots and leaves in winter or early spring is either one collects them too early and they dry out, killing the specimens within, or they go mouldy if one tries to keep them damp. 

One success I did have this spring was raising Rhyacionia buoliana from Scots Pine shoots from Stoke Common in Bucks. Loads of them, but unfortunately nothing else - which is what I was really interested in.

Anyway, when fresh they can be quite an attractive species:
