Convolvulus?
I'm pretty sure I had my first ever Convolvulus hawk-moth nectaring on my Nicotiana alata plants last night. I attach the only extremely awful photo I managed to get before it flew off. I will be out again tonight to see if I can get a better one.
Hello Tony, I suspect you are correct. The size and the banding on its abdomen are certainly suggestive of that species, as is the fact that it came to tobacco plant flowers. Fingers crossed that it comes back!
