On Tuesday evening (2nd August) Ian Esland and a group of friends trapped at Waltham Place near Maidenhead, Berks. One of the last moths in to Ian's trap was this superb White-spotted Pinion, the first Berkshire record since the 1980s. It would be nice to think that this formerly widespread species, the smartest of the Cosmia family, is starting to re-colonise our area after its population crashed half a century ago due to Dutch Elm Disease.
