Will eventually post a proper update on recent mothing, but thought it'd be good to share the highlight of an otherwise fairly below-par trapping session at Aston Rowant last night. It looked really promising at dusk with lots of micro activity (highlights A. abdominalis and T. subocellea) then the skies suddenly cleared and it got down to 8c on Linky Down and the traps were extremely quiet - hardly any micros or Geometrids. Amazingly though, we caught two Dark Crimson Underwing - there isn't much oak on the site, and none of it is near where we trapped, so a real surprise. Think this one should just be starting, so one to look out for over the next few weeks.

ReplyDeleteVery nice! I've been seeing reports of both Light and Dark Crimson Underwing in various places over the last week or two so it will be very interesting to see where they turn up in our area this year. I'm sure both are in the process of becoming established.
