Metzneria species

In the past I have identified all the Metzneria species I have caught in this area as metzneriella. This year I had a couple that looked a little different and on checking Peter identified both as lappella.

Images 1 and 2 are of the moth identified as lappella

I think images 3 and 4 are of metzneriella. If this is confirmed I could upload the images to the atlas.

  1. Hello Andy,
I find these two very difficult to separate safely so I usually get them checked and, for what it is worth, in my garden they turn out to be 10:1 in favour of lappella. I'd obviously be very happy accepting the lappella image for the Atlas but I'd prefer any image of metzneriella to be of one that has been dissected.

    1. Thank you. I thought it was just me finding them difficult to separate. Hopefully I will get a metzneriella that I can get dissected and confirmed next year.
