I always have trouble with these! The distinguishing features often seem obscured and then there's all that variation!
Can anyone help with these two - caught in a Robinson two nights ago near Chesham.

Hi David, as you say neither of these specimens is an ideal fit to specific Eudonia/Scoparia species. To me the first is the most uncertain - it may be S. ambigualis from the markings but the wing doesn't look quite narrow enough at the base. The second I am a bit more certain about as E. lacustrata, from the overall shape, the typically pale central area and the clear separation of the white sub-terminal 'blobs' where they join the white internal line to form a white 'X'.
