One of the Dioryctria, maybe D. sylvestrella?

 Certainly a very smart moth. Hopefully I can get the ID nailed down?

  1. Morning Mark. Can you supply the wingspan please as this also helps narrow it down. We have 2 larger species and 2 smaller ones. Looking at the wing patterning and comparing it with Frantisek Slamkas guide, you have abietella which should have a wingspan around +/- 30mm. Peter Hall

  2. Mark here, can't get the comments as myself working..I don't have the size but I remember thinking it was quite large, certainly larger than the common phycids I get here, e.g Euzophera pinguis, so it sounds like it is indeed abietella
