Cochylidia ID help

Hi. I caught this moth a couple of nights ago in Newbury. I'm happy that it is a Cochylidia, but am struggling to get beyond that. I imagine that it's likely to be implicitana (more common and seems to have a slight pink blush), but its appearance seems to have features consistent with heydeniana too (e.g. barred cilia). Is anyone able to point me in the right direction?

  1. Hello Paul,
I'd agree that implicitana looks the best match, especially with that obvious dark line before the cilia, but these species can be difficult (even Cochylis roseana can be similar with very little evidence of a pink 'blush' sometimes). I'd always prefer dissection to confirm, but Martin may be happy with that image. As a general point, please try to avoid pictures of moths in pots because some of the clarity of their markings is always lost when taken through glass or plastic.

  2. Thanks Dave. Point noted regarding pots. I'll put it in as implicitana and see what Martin thinks.
