Elachista subocellea
Last night a few of us in this area ran some moth traps at the local BBOWT reserve (Hook Norton railway cutting). The only moth of any real note was this Elachista subocellea. If the ID is correct. Apparently there are only 2 Warwickshire records and the latest was 1988. I wondered what the situation is in Oxfordshire and the Upper Thames area?

It looks ok as an id. I've got 3 records in the Bucks database (waiting for an update from Martin, the last record from 2016.
ReplyDeleteHow small is that image? I click on it to enlarge it and it reduces in size!
I have a record from 2003 and Martin Corley's list has it recorded in 1990. Probably local but under-recorded.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information. I do have a better photo now but I don't think the ID is in question.
ReplyDeleteHi Andy, I agree with Peter that the ID is correct (quite a distinctive little species). I've had it three times in Bucks from three different chalk grassland sites (in 2013, 2016 & 2018) so there are now at least 4 records including Peter's first for VC24 in 2010.
ReplyDeleteReally good to see you getting out and about!
