A Wanderer from Europe

Not quite the hoped for Orache or Druid which have appeared on the coast over the past few nights, but beggars can't be choosers this far inland and Bordered Straw is about as good as it gets for migrants in VC24.

Bordered Straw, Westcott 4th July

The nights of 3rd and 4th July here at Westcott were somewhat better than the previous few but still don't come up to the standards set by 2018, even though last night was another 100+ species night.  The following have been added to the garden year-list which now stands just four short of 400 species (last year that total was achieved on 29th June):

(3rd)  Teleiodes vulgella, Acleris forsskaleana, Rhopobota naevana, Elophila nymphaeata, Amblyptilia
          punctidactyla, Shaded Pug, Yellow-tail (plus Hummingbird Hawk-moth by day)
(4th)  Borkhausenia fuscescens, Oegoconia quadripuncta (awaiting dissection), Blastodacna hellerella,
          Phtheochroa inopiana, Acleris variegana, Acleris kochiella, Acrobasis consociella, Acrobasis
          suavella, Gillmeria pallidactyla, Dot Moth, Svensson's Copper Underwing, Cloaked Minor, Mere
          Wainscot, Bordered Straw

Heart & Dart and Dark Arches are still by far the most numerous moths being caught with totals of 228 and 145 respectively here last night.
