Daggers

I had 3 Daggers last night (Cholsey OX10 9LS) and they look so beautiful and I don't have the skill to do a live gen exam as outlined in WTL and didn't have the heart to deep freeze them to examine them when dead. Is there anything at all in these photos to suggest one or the other? Is it possible to tell male from female from external features like the shape of the abdomen? And apart from personal record keeping is there any need to identify them down to the species?

Thanks

Andy

  1. Hello Andy,
I'm afraid these two species do need to have their genitalia inspected in order to separate them (images of adults don't help). You can always record them as the aggregate, though, which is what many people do. Use "Grey/Dark Dagger" on iRecord.

  2. Thanks as always for responding Dave - I've recorded them as the aggregate
