Lunar-spotted Pinion and possible Brown Scallop

I found my first Lunar-spotted Pinion in the garden trap this weekend.
I also had this rather lovely Dun-bar. I have not seen a Dun-bar this colour before.
Finally, I think the moth below is a Brown Scallop, based on its wing shape and size, but I would welcome a second opinion.

  1. Hi Steve, I also found a Lunar-spotted Pinion a couple of nights ago (only the second time for my garden). The very worn 'Brown Scallop' might well be correct by size and shape (good to see a ruler being used!) so as you say unlikely to be other brown scalloped look-alikes (the only very similar but slightly smaller moth is the nationally scarce Dentated Pug where the scalloping is uneven - very unlikely, but would be a bit difficult to rule out on your specimen given the wear).

  2. Thanks John. I have retained the moth, so I'll get it examined just to make sure.
