Chalk Carpet and Sycamore?

I put my trap out in a friends garden in Whitchurch on Thames on the night of the 11th, and caught what I think is a Chalk Carpet. The garden is probably about half a mile from the nearest chalk downland. Am I correct or totally wrong?
The second moth I caught in my own garden this week and wondered if it was a Sycamore rather than a Poplar Grey or similar?

  1. Hi Lorna, correct for both. Chalk Carpet is a very nice record of a priority species although if I remember correctly it is quite well known from the Bozedown area just east of Whitchurch.

  2. Thanks Dave. My parents live next to Bozedown Farm and the owner said that she gets a lot of Chalk Carpets on her land when people have trapped there, so I wasn't too surprised to see one.
