Clifden Nonpareil Finmere Wood

I have just been sent a photo of a caterpillar found on a path in Finmere Wood this morning.  It looks to me like a final instar Clifden Nonpareil, but please correct me if I'm wrong.  After last year's influx, maybe this year will be good too.

  1. Looks good to me, Adam - a brilliant find! Assuming that you mean Finemere Wood (awkward having both Finmere and Finemere in the north of the county!), it would be useful to know whereabouts in the wood, when it was seen and who the observer was (direct to Martin A rather than on here if the finder doesn't want their name in lights). There is plenty of aspen in Finemere and, for that matter, most of the other woods in the area.

    1. It’s the wood near Calvert. I don’t think the finder’s name is known, it was a friend of mine who bumped into the couple that found it. He just took a picture and asked what it was. I’ll ask whether he knows where it was found.

    2. Actually he has all the details so I’ll pass it on to Martin.

    3. Hi Adam
I've now had an e-mail from the original recorder. Plus a couple of other people who saw the original tweet.
