Ushering in spring?

Finally found a reasonable moth here in Aylesbury after weeks of cold weather, a Spring usher found below a security lamp in Fairford leys. Although common enough in local woodland, i've only found these sparingly here in Aylesbury. Also saw an Angle Shades larva being eaten by a Wren on my patio yesterday! Dave Maunder

  1. Nice one, Dave! Last night (7th) we had Agonopterix heracliana and Early Moth to the kitchen windows here in Westcott so it does look as though things might be starting to pick up at last.

    1. Not seen an Early moth yet this year, Dave, but with some slightly milder cloudy nights they should soon be about. Soon be time to get off to the woods, weather permitting ---

    2. Had to do a parental taxi run to Milton Keynes station earlier this evening - with the car temperature gauge fluctuating between 0.5C and freezing the headlights picked up more than ten small weakly-flying moths just between Westcott and Botolph Claydon. Seems rather late for Winter Moths now so I imagine most will have been Early Moths - they must run on anti-freeze!
