Found a couple of these at Chiltern Open Air Museum this morning. From looking at pics on-line, it looks to me like Taleporia tubulosa but I'd appreciate other opinions.
A bit difficult to be sure without a size and a shot from another angle. The case of T. tubulosa is very obviously triangular. The site is also right for the species. You could keep it and rear the adult.
The larvae stay in the cases. It might still be feeding, but probably not for much longer. The females are wingless so you may need to look carefully to spot them.

Thanks Martin. The size is right but I'll grab them and try to rear them on.
ReplyDeleteIs the thing still feeding at this stage? And if so, does it stray far from the case, or just graze like a tethered pony?
Cheers
Dave
