Dotted Rustic

I've had a couple of requests recently from moth enthusiasts in other counties who are keen to see this species.  After an almost complete absence of sightings over the previous decade, it had a bit of a revival in our area in 2011 and there were certainly sightings of it locally through until last year, but I haven't seen it anywhere in 2016 and wondered if anyone else had.  Have any of you recorded Dotted Rustic this year?

  1. Hi Dave, I had a single Dotted Rustic in my garden back on 19th July, but haven't seen one since. In 2015 I also recorded a single Dotted Rustic, but much later on 10th September.

  2. Thanks, Steve. Like the Large and Lesser Yellow Underwing, Dotted Rustic disappears into 'temporary storage' during August then re-appears again in September and should be around now. Mind you, unlike its Large relative, Lesser Yellow Underwing doesn't seem to have re-appeared in force yet so maybe Dotted Rustic is also taking its time over waking up.

  3. Ive not had one here yet this year, i had one last year on 29th August, none in 2014. 2013 was good with 4 recorded between 19th August and 17th September. Hopefully the warmth early next week will bring one out.
