Hi again!
This turned up last night - one of over 200 moths in the trap - 80% of them Common and Small Quakers!
I can't find anything like this in the books. Acleris shalleriana has the dark splodge in the right place, but surely the shape is all wrong?? Thoughts welcome.
Best wishes
David
Hi David, Oak Nycteoline maybe?
ReplyDeleteTry again, David, but concentrate on the macro-moths this time!
ReplyDeleteYes, of course! Duuuurrr!!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, David, you aren't the first and certainly won't be the last not to recognise Oak Nycteoline! Your image also seems to show one of its reactions to being disturbed, which is to roll itself up into a tube (sometimes more tightly than this one).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dave - that makes me feel a bit better!! The field guide doesn't show that variation and I thought the shape was wrong - not knowing that it 'rolls up'!!
ReplyDeleteEvery day's a school day - at least for me, as far as moths are concerned!
