Following a single Mottled Umber on Friday night, 5 more caught last night (although none have actually made it into the trap). Also this one which I expect is a Winter moth but with the protruding hind-wings that appear quite light in colour I thought I should check.

I'm afraid I'm not sure, Andy. I find these quite difficult to do from single photographs and the two species are easiest to separate when you have both of them side-by-side. My admittedly rather limited experience of Northern Winter is that the males are usually encountered between late-October and early-December and don't usually survive into the new year.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Very much as I anticipated but its good to get started again after a gap with no moths.
