Chestnuts at Christmas

For the first time in well over a week, the garden stayed frost free last night, and the light trap attracted 3 moths. A Winter Moth sat on the outside of the trap, whilst amongst the egg boxes were 2 Chestnuts.

These are actually the first Chestnuts I have recorded in the garden this year, so it just goes to show it is never too late to get additions to your garden year list.
Finally, a very happy Xmas to all of you who contribute to this blog, and best wishes for 2018.

  1. Last night I ran my actinic light inside the conservatory and got just a single Agonopterix ciliella/heracliana. Tonight seems more promising with Winter Moths and Mottled Umbers in so far.

A Happy Christmas to you too!

  2. Encouraged by this to put the trap out last night. No Chestnuts but a good selection of others Mottled Umber (8), December (7) and singles of Satellite, Winter and Dark Chestnut. It was good to see some moths after quite a long break.
