Dotted Chestnut

This Dotted Chestnut turned up in Merton, Oxon last night, first time recorded in my trap.

Also this Ypsolopha mucronella?

  1. Hello Linda, yes that is Ypsolopha mucronella. I think I'm correct in saying that only two of that family hibernate (mucronella and ustella) and one is twice the size of the other so theoretically they shouldn't ever get confused! Mucronella can be found anywhere where there's spindle and that's a reasonably widespread hedgerow plant in our area.

  2. Thanks Dave. It was certainly large and very lively!
