Ypsolopha ustella?

My first micro of the year, I think it is Ypsolopha ustella  caught in the moth trap on 2nd January in Burghers Hill, Wooburn Common.

  1. Hello Peter,

Yes, from the first image it is clearly an Ypsolopha species so must be the infinitely variable ustella. Apart from the easily identifiable mucronella, it is the only Ypsolopha which over-winters as an adult.

  2. Thanks Dave - It was playing "dead" when I tried to move it to get a getter photo.

  3. If you'd only uploaded the second photo I think I might have struggled with the ID!
