Last night's collection of moths at Westcott (31 individuals of five species) was made up entirely of Orthosias but at least they included four specimens of Powdered Quaker, a new arrival for the garden year-list.

The Orthosia monopoly was broken by an Oak Beauty in my garden trap last night. No frost, but what a cold north-easterly wind!
ReplyDeleteGood to see Oak Beauty is still hanging on, always a nice moth to get. Before being confined to barracks I was of the opinion that it wasn't having a particularly good year.
ReplyDeleteLooks like we're stuck with these cold north-easterlies until the middle of next week then things might improve a little, at night-time anyway. In fact from the second week of April it could turn quite nice if the forecast is to be believed.
