Last of the common Orthosias

Last night's collection of moths at Westcott (31 individuals of five species) was made up entirely of Orthosias but at least they included four specimens of Powdered Quaker, a new arrival for the garden year-list.

  1. The Orthosia monopoly was broken by an Oak Beauty in my garden trap last night. No frost, but what a cold north-easterly wind!

  2. Good to see Oak Beauty is still hanging on, always a nice moth to get. Before being confined to barracks I was of the opinion that it wasn't having a particularly good year.

Looks like we're stuck with these cold north-easterlies until the middle of next week then things might improve a little, at night-time anyway. In fact from the second week of April it could turn quite nice if the forecast is to be believed.
