Just twenty species came to a single MV run at
Finemere for three hours last night. Figure of Eight (19) was the only moth to appear in any numbers but I did get a well-marked Pine Carpet (a new species for the site, which perversely had most of its conifers removed a couple of winters ago!) as well as second-brood Small Fan-footed Wave and Yellow-tail.

Nice to see Figure of eight still in numbers here, Dave - i used to find them in huge numbers here in Aylesbury back in the 70's, but not anymore, sadly. Second brood Yellow-tail is very unusual too, i would think?
ReplyDeleteFinemere always seems to have been good for Figure of Eight, hardly surprising with all that blackthorn! I usually manage a count of 30+ on one night there each year but in 2009 I must have timed it just right and got 80 in one night. As you say, its not quite so easy to find elsewhere nowadays.
