Salad days

I thought things would quieten down after last week's Death's Head excitement in Kirtlington, but I must just exult about the arrival last night of my favourite moth, as Dave did ten days ago: the Merveille du Jour. It shared the trap with three Green-brindled Crescents, a Barred and a Pink-barred Sallow and a score of grey and brown irritations which I will try to ID later.

Incidentally, I am appropriately green with envy because a fellow-blogger in Hampshire got a Clifden Nonpareil in her trap last night. The fact that the moth has visited both her and Marc, each operating a light trap, makes me optimistic about how many are actually out there. Martin Wainwright, Thrupp, Oxon
