Prompted by Adam's discovery and because I often find Red Underwings on the walls here too, I had a quick look around the house at lunchtime today. No Red Underwing (or Old Lady, which is another species I've seen under the eaves before now), but I did find this Hummingbird Hawk-moth having a rest from its regular visits around our various buddleias.

I've found that Hummingbird HM seem to like resting on a red leaved smoke bush (cotinus) that I have. It's the only place that I have consistently found moths flying onto to rest. My garden shed is a favoured place for Old Lady (and Copper Underwing), they just have to be wary of the spiders!
