Firstly, a very early Engrailed - or am I being fooled by something else?
Then these micros that I'm not sure about - any help gratefully received. I think the first one with hairline white stripes is one of the many forms of Acleris cristana. And maybe Nos 2 and 4 are both Tortricodes alternella? No 3 flew before I could photo its side view, so may be impossible!
Thanks, David
Hi David,
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed Engrailed. February records do happen although the first week of March is its usual starting time for me. That said, the earliest I've ever had it was actually on 24th January (2016, in the middle of Rushbeds Wood).
See https://upperthamesmoths.blogspot.com/2016/01/good-night-to-get-started.html
You've scored well with the micro IDs! They are, in order, Acleris cristana, Tortricodes alternella, Ypsolopha ustella & Tortricodes alternella again.
Thanks, Dave - I'm relieved to see that I wasn't totally wide of the mark - so much to learn about micros! Had my first Oak Beauty of the year on Tuesday night. Most stuff still sitting outside the trap apart from the Chestnuts which are regularly all snuggled down inside!
DeleteBest wishes, David
