Hi Tony, To me that looks like the darker over-wintering form of Acleris kochiella. Do you have any elm nearby? It can sometimes be confused with Acleris logiana, a more recent invader in our area which uses birch, but the background colour on logiana is usually much lighter than this.
No elm here Dave, but plenty of birch. It escaped whilst photographing, but I've just caught it again. Will have another look at it in the morning. Thanks for the suggestions.
