Searching Norway Maples along Shire Lane in Chorleywood a couple of days ago, I found 2 vacated mines of Stigmella aceris in a single, rather small maple leaf, but nowhere else. This is generally a rather scarce moth and, if evidence of it is found at all, it is usually as leaf-mines in Field Maple leaves.

There's a lot of Field Maple on the COAM site; I'll take a look next time I'm up there...
ReplyDeleteAs Andy says, this is an uncommon species in Bucks but don't let that stop you looking, Dave. I've only seen it at two sites, once on Norway Maple a few miles away from home and the other two times both on Field Maple at Homefield Wood near Marlow. A good record if you can find it!
ReplyDeleteI suggest it as the COAM site is adjacent to Shire Lane. You never know!!
