Couple of moths I could do with some help with, the first is hiding away and I'm not sure there is enough to see. The other is a plume moth, can anyone say which one?
Hi Mark, I assume you are referring to the grey moth in the first image and the series of black dots along the leading edge of the wing help to confirm it as Pale Mottled Willow, the second brood of which is starting to appear now. The plume is the very common Emmelina monodactyla.
As someone who couldn't identify a Lesser Yellow Underwing earlier in the day I'm not sure I'm qualified to answer any query but the little fellow looks like a Pale Mottled Willow which I get up on the hill at Garsington. I'll leave the Plume to someone with better knowledge!.
thanks both. For some reason I have a blind spot with that and the Mottled Rustic - both usually hide in the egg box and I don't get them potted properly.
