Darkly Spectacular

Another light left at COAM last night added a few more NFY, including this Dark Spectacle:

and this Map-winged Swift:

plus Purple Bar, Tinea semifulvella, Pandemis cinnamomeana, Evergetis forficalis, Tachystola acroxantha and Double Square-spot.

Also, I'd appreciate some guidance on these:

  1. My suggestions are Elachista argentella, ?Nemapogon clematella (would like to see a better picture), Olindia schumacherana and Taleporia tubulosa.

    1. That was my first thought too - the head looks right for one but the wing shape is very odd. Maybe it is just the way it is sitting. Definitely needs a better picture, Dave!

  3. Thanx! I had wondered about the Olindia, but I've only seen it with the white all the way across.

I did retain some of these, but I've left them at the museum; I'll check tomorrow if #2 is one of them.

  4. No 2 looks a lot like Argyresthia curvella.

  5. Picked up my bits this morning, and I do still have this moth, so I'll try to compare it against the various suggestions...

  6. Right, it certainly matches Argyresthia curvella, so unless there are any confusion species or it needs a chop, I'll let it go! (Or not, I have a lot of apple trees in my garden...)
